Bill C-10 Budget Implementation Act ? Send it back!

Wednesday, December 14 2011

The proposed federal budget, Bill C-10, Budget Implementation Act, contains clauses that will radically change the rules governing pay equity in the federal public sector. The Public Sector Equitable Compensation Act, which is being piggybacked on the federal budget, will remove the right of public sector workers to file pay equity complaints with the Canadian Human Rights Commission. It would transform pay equity into an issue that can be traded at the bargaining table. It even includes a clause to empower the government to fine unions up to $ 50,000 for helping people file pay equity complaints.

Bill C-10 Budget Implementation 2009 is now in the Senate for debate. Senators can accept it or to send it back to the House of Commons to be improved.

Contact N.B.’s Senators and ask them to send the Bill C-10 Budget Implementation Act back to the House of Commons for the Public Sector Equitable Compensation Act to be removed from the Bill. Create your own message or copy parts of the following. Do it now. This Budget has moved through the process faster than any other budget in the history of Canada.

Senator:
You are aware of the issues in the proposed budget, Bill C-10. This legislation would radically change the rules governing pay equity in the federal public sector. The Public Sector Equitable Compensation Act will remove the right of public sector workers to file pay equity complaints with the Canadian Human Rights Commission and transform it into an issue that can be traded away at the bargaining table. It even includes a clause to give governments the right to fine unions up to $50,000 for helping people to file pay equity complaints. This Act must be removed from Bill C-10, the Budget Implementation Act.

Will you speak to remove the Public Sector Equitable Compensation Act from Bill C-10, the Budget Implementation Act?
