Tired of minimal accountability to women's rights and gender equality? Want results from your government and the United Nations? The time to Act is NOW!

The Canadian Committee on Women and the UN Reform is an initiative of Action Canada for Population and Development (ACPD), Association of Women in Development (AWID), Feminist Alliance for International Action (FAFIA), Riverdale Immigrant Women's Centre (RIWC) and Toronto Women's Call to Action (TWCA). We are launching a campaign for a new women's agency at the UN.

We hope more of you will join us as we expand and complement the international movement of feminists in this venture. If your organization would like to endorse our demand, please email your name and contact information to us at reform@twca.ca

Our objective is to inform, engage and lobby women’s groups and equality seeking organizations in Canada for new gender architecture at the United Nations.

Specifically, we are encouraging women and men to call for a new, independent, high level, and well resourced women-specific agency both at the operational and policy-making spheres. A new-style women's agency that would be a leader in the imagination of the UN! An agency with accountability mechanisms that include regionally diverse independent women's rights advocates from the South and the North as part of its governing body. A woman’s agency that will focus on all issues that diverse women work and organize around – environment, conflict resolution, macro-economics policy, dams, mining, energy, water, human settlements, disasters, biodiversity, toxic chemicals, science and technology and many more.
